What is a Light Sport Aircraft?
Light Sport Aircraft include Fixed-Wing Airplanes, Trikes, Powered Parachutes, Gliders, and Gyroplanes as well as Floatplanes and Amphibians. FAA determined characteristics for LSA include:
1. A maximum of two occupants
2. A maximum take-off weight of 1,320 pounds (seaplanes 1,430 pounds)
3. A 45-knot clean stall speed
4. A 120-knot top speed at maximum continuous power
5. A single, non-turbine engine
6. Fixed landing gear (amphibious floatplanes can have “repositionable” gear).
